CCC-Hastings
Central Community College-Hastings honored 377 graduating students on May 9 during its 42nd annual commencement ceremonies.
Dr. Bart L. Eastwood of O’Neill received the 2009 Outstanding Alumni Award during commencement activities May 9 at Central Community College-Hastings.
Eastwood is a 1993 graduate of Grand Island Northwest High School and a 1996 graduate of CCC-Hastings with an associate of applied science degree in biotechnology.
He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Des Moines University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery.
He was accepted into the orthopedic surgical residency program at Ohio University and Affinity Medical Center. While in the program, he was recognized as the chief intern in 2002-03 and as the chief resident in 2006-07. He completed his rotation at hospitals in Massillon/Canton, Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, as well as in Denver, Colo.
Eastwood completed his board certification in orthopedic surgery in 2007 and moved to O’Neill where he became the first full-time orthopedic surgeon on staff at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Eastwood and his wife, Shannon, have two children: Cole and Allie.
