Parade float judging planned for Friday
The Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce and Harvest of Harmony committee have selected Christine Shenk, Lynnette Marshall and Kris Jerke to judge the chamber's float competition.
The judging will take place this evening at Thompson Arena at Fonner Park.
Shenk, a second-year judge for the float competition, is a certified public accountant who lives in Grand Island with her husband and two children.
Recently promoted to principal with the firm Almquist, Maltzahn, Galloway & Luth, she has worked for the firm for 12 years, providing tax preparation, research and planning services for individuals, businesses and estates. Prior to becoming an accountant, Shenk spent nine years in the retail industry as a divisional manager for a national department store chain.
A Clarks native, she graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in comprehensive business administration. She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and board treasurer for College Park.
Marshall is also judging for a second year. She has been a supervisor at McCain Foods for 15 years and also worked for 14 years as a supervisor at Monfort, which is now known as JBS Swift & Co. She has been involved with the Central Nebraska Ethnic Festival for 13 years and has been festival manager for 10 years.
Marshall has grown up with the parade. Her birthday is the same time as the Harvest of Harmony, so, as a child growing up in the area, her birthday celebration always started with going to the parade. She also marched in the parade with bands from Barr Junior High and Grand Island Senior High.
Jerke is a first-year judge for the float competition. He has been a business banker with Platte Valley State Bank & Trust for nearly five years and has been in the financial services industry for 12 years.
He has been active in a variety of local organizations and serves on the boards of the Heartland Lutheran High School Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Nebraska and the Hall County Housing Authority. He and his wife, Wendy, reside in Grand Island.
