Bruce Livingston began his own operation at the age of 8 with six gilts, earning three of the gilts by working for his dad and uncles. Two gilts were purchased with earnings from a 4-H swine project and one gilt was won by placing first at a swine judging contest. With hard work and determination over the years, he has grown LEI to 36,000 sows.

When Bruce graduated from high school, he owned and operated a 150-sow farrow-to-finish operation. In 1996, he stopped producing finishing hogs and transitioned his operation into a 2,200 sow breed-to-wean facility.

LEI is composed of swine production facilities, Livingston Enterprises Transport Inc. and LEI Mills LLC. All aspects of LEI are essential in providing sustainable pork to the world. The family’s 14 swine production facilities include six sow farms with 36,000 sows that produce over 1.2 million weaned pigs on a yearly basis. The Livingston family has facilities in Nebraska and Kansas and are continuously expanding.

The family takes pride in being one of the top pork production companies in the world. The family and staff work hard every day to provide consumers with quality pork while using the safest and most environmentally friendly practices. “It’s the little things,” Bruce says. “We treat each sow as an individual. It’s just like when I was a kid. I knew how many pigs were on every sow. I knew how much feed each sow ate.” 

Clearly paying attention to nutrition and the well-being of each pig is a mainstay for the Livingston family and staff. They play an important role in producing quality pork products we all enjoy.

Bruce and his wife Trudy’s oldest son, Connor, joined the family business in 2015 and is currently the director of sites and mill operations. He serves as board member of the Nebraska Pork Producers Association, has participated in the Pork Leadership Institute, and is on the leadership track to serve as president in 2024.
