Gov. Pete Ricketts will hold a news conference Tuesday about the state's fight against coronavirus.

"Peaceful protest is the American way," the governor said. "Violent protest is not acceptable."

Gov. Pete Ricketts will give his State of the State address on Thursday before the Legislature.

On Monday, Michigan moved to ban the open carry of weapons at its Capitol after the FBI warned of possible armed protests this weekend.

The governor said the state will update plans on getting the COVID-19 vaccine to people 65 and older.

Another proposed constitutional amendment authored by Sen. Justin Wayne of Omaha would allow senators to serve three consecutive four-year terms rather than the current limit of two terms.

"Here in one of the agricultural powerhouses of the world, we're hemorrhaging both our tax dollars and our food dollars from our communities and school districts by purchasing out-of-state food to feed our kids," Sen. Tom Brandt said.

The flare-up followed earlier statements by the governor that led to some confusion about his administration's policy in providing vaccinations for undocumented immigrants.

"It is my belief that if the Legislature fails to enact spending constraints the people of Nebraska will take matters into their own hands and strip local governments of their property tax authority."

The governor said 133,000 doses of vaccine have been delivered to providers and 60,000 doses have been administered.
