What would your top priorities be as a school board member and why?

My top two priorities will be getting kids safely back into school. Continuous online learning is not ideal for mental and physical health. Going back and forth from online to in-person school will take a long-term toll. Online learning also puts strain on parents, businesses and families as they have to adjust their jobs and lives accordingly, though many don’t have the means to do so. I will also work to bring transparency to the school budget and tax levy.

What would your top priorities be as a school board member and why?

1. Pandemic recovery to address learning loss, this includes the effects of the social and emotional loss from isolation.

2. Budget and finance following the loss of state aid last year. Keeping reductions as far from the classroom as possible.

3. 2020 bond issue projects – Completing projects on time and under budget; adjusting boundaries, and opening the new high schools.

4. Strengthen early college and career opportunities and partnerships to keep a talented work force in our city.

Balancing LPS’s budget while addressing unmet student needs during an era that is witnessing more shrinkage of state aid, placing more pressure on local taxpayers. Addressing equity issues to ensure that all of our community’s children receive an adequate education. Exploring the possibilities that new technologies provide public education to lower costs while keeping an excellent educational system.

What would your top priorities be as a school board member and why?

My top priority as a school board member is supporting the work of public schools, preparing all students to be college, career and civic-life ready. Specific areas of concern for the board include pandemic recovery, the budget, and systemic inequity. Addressing the learning loss that has occurred during the pandemic will be a multiyear effort that will take place in the context of tight budgets and the need to improve equitable outcomes for all students.

What would your top priorities be as a school board member and why?

My immediate top priority will be continuing to manage the effects of the global pandemic on our students and staff. This has been the hardest year ever for our staff, and many of our students have struggled with academic achievement. We’re still navigating these issues and will be for some time. In addition, we’ll be working hard on the budget. Our state aid is looking to be reduced for the second straight year and things are going to be tough.

What would your top priorities be as a school board member and why?

My top priorities would be that all students should go back to school and stay in school full time. Students learn best in the classroom with their peers and a live educator, teacher. Then to make sure that my community, the constituents of District 7, should have a "voice" and complete transparency when it comes to school policies, teaching curriculums, school meal programs and how taxpayer funds are allocated.

Why are you running for the Airport Authority and what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I feel our airport is underutilized and underpromoted. If elected, I will cultivate business partnerships and encourage active community support to assist in air service expansion. I will work to understand the ins and outs of the operation, seek opportunities to enhance land use, assist management in employing effective communication with airlines and connect with individuals and companies in the travel industry to grow our airport, which has an estimated $1 billion impact on the greater Lincoln community.

Why are you running for the Airport Authority and what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I want to give back to a community that has been my home for 50 years. Helping to increase our commercial air service is a priority. The attraction of more flights and increased passenger numbers will be enabled by the LNK Next expansion (terminal) – a good return on investment for Lincoln. I also want to see the general aviation businesses thrive and have opportunities for continued growth. We also need to maintain a strong relationship with military-based partners.

Why are you running for the Airport Authority and what do you hope to accomplish if elected?

I am running for airport authority on three main things. One is to hopefully avoid the levy and try and find other revenue streams to fund the airport expansion. Second is to get more airlines in here to service the city of Lincoln better and keep them. Third would be to figure out how to better utilize the buildings and property that the airport has to lease out.

Why are you running for the City Council?

I believe it's important to stand strong in support of American values and speak up to secure the future of our great nation. I will be an honest representative for Lincoln, for Nebraska, and for America. I will vote for Lincolnites on every issue. I'm running to keep Lincoln great, to keep us safe, to support local businesses first (new and existing), to strengthen our schools and the futures of our children, and to bring common sense to our government.

Why are you running for the City Council?

We need someone with the curiosity to ask questions, the patience to hear all perspectives and the work ethic to do the homework necessary to make informed decisions. Local government has a large influence on our daily lives, so the people in leadership need to be accessible, compassionate and committed to making sure city programs and policies are distributed equitably and enacted fairly. We can build a community where everyone has a stake in the future prosperity of Lincoln.
